Interview with New Mystery Author Stone PatrickToday I'll be interviewing Author Taylor Stonely about his new mystery book The Fallen Body. Could you please tell my fantastic readers about your most recent book? My book is about a modern day small-town lawyer, Taylour Dixxon, who is obliged to defend a New Jersey millionairess accused of murder, thereby putting both lives in danger as they search for the truth in this cozy suspense/thriller set in the beautiful hill country of Central Texas. |
How did you come up with the title?
The opening scene sets the stage for the story, and when I found an awesome photo of a falling body, the title stuck!
What inspired you to write Mystery.
I love reading mystery novels, so that genre was the one that was the most familiar to me. I like how you can build the suspense throughout the novel so that when you get to the end, the conclusion is completely satisfying. Especially when there is a twist!
What inspired you to write this book?
I love reading about female characters and when I looked back at some of the series that I have enjoyed over the years, I couldn't remember ever reading about a female lawyer. I felt that this niche has gone mostly unexplored, so I seized on a small-town setting and created a character that most women can relate to.
Are you working on any current projects?
I am working on a second book in the Taylour Dixxon series, with some of the same beloved characters as well as new villains. I am also exploring some of the story threads that were left unanswered in "The Fallen Body"
Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?
It came from a desire to tap into and express more fully my creative side. I absolutely loved reading books about how to write well, and I immediately saw writing as a hobby that was not only worthwhile, but very fulfilling!
What is it about writing that makes it worthwhile to you personally?
I have always enjoyed telling stories to my kids, and I saw writing as an extension of my storytelling. If I can keep the suspense going from one chapter to the next, if I can capture the attention of my audience, then I feel powerful in a way that is hard to describe. To have control over the emotions of my readers through the written word is a very intoxicating feeling.
Who is your favorite author and what is it that really strikes you about their work?
John Grisham tells a great story in a very simple, yet profound way. His characters and settings are familiar, and his style of writing in third person is how I like to write.
Are there any new authors that have caught your interest?
I just finished reading Rising Tide: Dark Innocence by Claudette Melanson and I loved it! It is a YA Vampire novel, the first of a series, and I absolutely enjoyed how this was written!
What is your goal as an author for the next year?
I want to complete my second novel as mentioned above, and hopefully start on a third novel in the series within the next 6 months.
Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?
Writing is what I enjoy doing whenever I have a spare moment. Please share what you enjoy reading with others so that they can enjoy it as well. If anything, it can be a future topic of conversation!
